INCOME GENERATING ACTIVITIES

When HIV+ clients receive the news, some see it as a death sentence. To counter those feelings, CODEAPS uses income-generating activities to foster a sense of hope in HIV+ patients. This way, clients can still help to support their families.

In addition, CODEAPS income-generating activities are used in homes with orphaned children or an elderly person, whom need additional assistance.

One way that CODEAPS does this is through providing goats and chickens to our clients. Raising the goats increases the self-efficacy of the clients. CODEAPS gives each client two female goats and in return, clients give the organization one female born from the goats then keep all other offspring. The client agrees to take good care of the goat. To ensure this, CODEAPS volunteers monitor the status and conditions of the goats. CODEAPS has been able to donate 90 goats to 45 families.

To a lesser extent, some local chicken breeds were given to some families too. These chickens are valuable because the families can benefit from the eggs as well as future offspring.
